Lugoff Bassmasters Tournament Report: 17 Oct 2009, Lake Hartwell
The
Hartwell tournament is in the books for Lugoff Bassmasters and fishing
was a mixed bag. It was better than last year's club tournament, but it
definitely wasn't as good as last year's 6-man. The weather had been up
and down and the bass seemed to be the same way. Members were faced
with cold rain and wind for most of the day. Gene Gibbs won the
tournament by speed-fluking at the southern end of the lake. Dale
Goff came in with a decnet weight by fishing up the lake on his
favorite baby brush hog. Jim Timmerberg caught most of his by
throwing a Sammy to schooling fish up the Seneca River. Other
members reported very little action on either a texas rig or a carolina
rig. It looked like more spots were weighed in than largemouths. The
weather really must have had something to do with that.
Next
up is the Lake Wylie tournament on 14 November. Our pre tournament
meeting will take place at Hall's on Thursday, 12 November. I hope to
see as many members there as possible. We were unable to vote on
several issues because we didn't have a quorum present at the last
meeting. Points are tightening up as we start the 2nd quarter of
the season. Several new members are holding their own up to this
point. The 2nd Quarter should be interesting as the weather gets
colder, and we see what Wylie, Wateree, and Murray have to offer.
For planning purposes and an early heads up,
Gene has made cabin reservations for the Clarks Hill and Hartwell spring 2-day
tournaments. He booked 3 cabins for each tournament. The cabins sleep 5
comfortably so if everybody fishes, we will need 3 cabins. Members will be
asked shortly to make a commitment so that cancellations can be made if we
don't need 3 cabins. Check your calendars and try to fish these really fun
events. We already have the cabins at Shady Oaks on Lake Russell. Plenty of
room in those cabins. For new members, most guys try to practice fish on Friday
and the tournaments are Sat and Sun. Reservations are made for Fri and Sat
nights. The club usually pays one night for all members. The 2nd night and
food costs are up to each member. We usually have a fish fry one night and
hamburgers the other night. Gene cooks up a fantastic breakfast both mornings.
It runs from $20 to $30 for each member for cabins and food. You can't beat
it. Dates are as follows: Russell= 20-21 March; Hartwell= 17-18 April;
Clarks Hill= 22-23 May.
