Lugoff Bassmasters Tournament Report: Lake Wylie, 21 Feb 09
The 7th tournament of the LBM season launched out of Ebeneezer on 21 Feb. Anglers faced a chilly start to
the day, with air temps in the upper teens. It was just flat cold and it didn't
warm up much the rest of the day on the water. Water temps ranged from 48 to 52
degrees. Fishing turned out to be better than expected by most, with 6 members managing
to boat a 5-fish limit. This was pretty impressive with the cold front and blue
bird skies!
Members caught their fish on shad raps, jigs,
t-rigs, and the ever present shakey head. Most reported an active bite first
thing in the morning, followed by a lull in activity until about 1:00, and then another bite
on the shakey head after that. Dominant pattern was docks in 8 to 15 ft of
water, mainly out in front of the docks. Main lake and at the mouths of
creeks seemed to be the best. Anglers reported very little action back in the
creeks.
The next tournament will be the clubs first of three 2-day tournaments; this first one takes place on Lake
Russell, Mar 21-22. Unfortunately. several members will have to miss that
tournament.
Parting Bites:
1. Phil Martin finally works his way out his slump and posts an impressive catch as a non-boater.
2. Earnie Jones blew his motor shortly after launch. This is the fourth time this motor has spilled its guts!
3. Joe Akshar continues an impressive run of results, logging his second victory of the season.
4. Jim Timmerberg finally gets away from his
5-in-a-row 4th place finishes. Completely out of charatcter, he even caught a nice bass on a shad
rap.
8. Dale Goff keeps creeping up the leader board,
looking to build on his two previous "Angler of the Year" awards.
9. Randy Kitzmiller sees the bad
side of Wylie and will be one of the Anglers unable to compete at Lake Russell.
