Lugoff Bassmasters Tournament Report: Clarks Hill (Lake Thurmond), 16-17 May 09
Our
10th tournament of the season is in the books! The lake fished
unusually tough for this time of year for some reason. Even though
85 bass were brought to the scales, most members really had to fish
hard to put a limit in the livewell. Finding keeper bass, and more
importantly, quality fish was a real test. Bites were few and far
between in a lot of the normal areas. Pounding the banks, working cuts
and creeks wasn't working. Most of the good fish were caught on
main lake points; a few on secondary points. Some members are pretty
tight-lipped, but it seemed like most had their best luck fishing this
way. The top water bite was way off this year too. You might get lucky
on a few busting bass, but the shad/herring feast wasn't
happening.
Congratulations to Gene Gibbs for his 2nd win in a row! Also to Joe
Akshar for bringing in the big fish of the tournament at a healthy 4.96
lbs. Competition for Angler of the Year and the Six-man team is a
real horse race. The next tournament on Lake Murray will be
interesting, followed by the final tournament of the season in the
summer heat of July.
Parting Bites:
-Earnie Jones set a new club record with the smallest 5
fish limit at 4.04lbs.
-Congratulations to
William Hodge for a nice 3.40 bass and 8 keepers for the tournament.
-Randy Kitzmiller puts his first ever tournament limit in the boat and manages a second limit on day 2.
