Lugoff Bassmasters Tournament
Report: Lake Wylie, 15 Nov 2008
The Lugoff Bassmasters held their 4th tournament of the year on Lake
Wylie, Rock Hill SC, on 15 Nov 08. Members arrived at Ebeneezer
State Park expecting thunderstorms and strong winds for most of the
morning and high winds to continue throughout the day. Fortunately, the
forecasted storms and rain didn't happen, but the wind blew hard all
day making it difficult for anglers to position their boats and work
lures. The club had the park pretty much to themselves as boats started
to arrive around 6:00 AM. Members blasted off at 6:30 AM and headed off
for a day of fishing. Clouds blanketed the skies up to about 11:00 AM,
but then lots of sun after that. Most members caught their fish early
and struggled once the sun came out. Fish were caught on buzz baits,
suspending jerk baits, soft plastics ( t-rig, c-rig, and shakey head),
plus some on a jig. Docks seemed to be the dominant pattern for most
anglers, while some had success fishing the edges of steep drop offs.
You couldn't buy a bite on lay downs! Wylie is still fishing tough, but
the bite should begin to pick up as the water temps start to drop a few
more degrees. Water temps were still in the low 60's. The big bass of
the day was a nice, 5.39 pound Wylie chunk caught on a buzz bait late
in the day by Randy Kitzmiller (who finished 2nd for the day with 4
bass weighing 9.54 lbs). Dale Goff won the tournament with a
5-fish limit weighing 11.36 lbs. Darrell Munn rounded out the top-3
with a limit weighing 7.40 lbs. Congratulations to all on another successful, fun day of fishing with
Lugoff Bassmasters!
Parting Bites
1. After a slow start this season, Dale Goff rebounds with
his 2nd straight tournament win. Dale has been the top-points winner
the last two seasons and seems ready to make his move again this season.
2. Darrell Munn, club president, has placed in the money in
all 4 tournaments this season, and he is the current points leader.
3. After 3 unsuccessful tournaments, William Hodge finally
got that elusive keeper!
4. Phil Martin didn't bring any bananas with him today.
Thanks, Phil!
5. Randy Kitzmiller proves that luck plays a part in fishing.
A buzz bait under those conditions!? A hawg like that giving you a 2nd
chance!? Go figure.
