Lugoff Bassmasters Tournament Report: Lake Wateree, 11 July 09
Timing was imperative! Location definitely played a role, but being at the right place at the right time seemed to be the secret to catching fish in our last tournament of the season. Only 3 members managed a 5 bass limit, and of those, all reported boating their limits early from a key spot they hit. Most members talked about fishing open water from about 9:00 AM on. Dale Goff did manage to find some fish later in the day, but most of us struggled after the morning "bite". How tough was it? Well, with only 3 limits and 5 fisherman unable to put one in the boat that question is answered.Another season is in the books now for Lugoff Bassmasters; Angler of the Year has been determined and the Six-man team is set. Congratulations go out to Gene Gibbs for winning the Angler of the Year race. Several guys gave him a battle, but Gene's strong showing down the stretch gave him the hard-fought, well deserved title. Jim timmerberg finished the year in second, only 90 points from first, and Dale Goff rounds out the top three.

We've got a strong Six-man team heading into the October tournament on Lake Murray. Boaters will be Gene Gibbs, Jim Timmerberg, and Dale Goff.  Non-boaters will be Darrell Munn, Joe Akshar, and Randy Kitzmiller. The July tournament winner, David Jackson, is this years alternate. Congrats to both Joe and Randy as this is their 1st time to qualify for the Six-man. With the new format allowing our team to fish together, we feel confident about our chances. The schedule has been set for our next season. This year the club is starting things off with a team tournament on Wateree in August, which should be a blast and will improve everyones chances of starting the year strongly. It also gives members an opportunity to fish with guys they haven't had a lot of chances to fish with and get to know each other better.
