The
purpose
of Lugoff Bassmasters is to create, among fellow anglers and the
public, an awareness of our chapter and society’s
contributions to American angling, conservation and outdoor recreation;
to encourage and instruct the youth of our community in the art of bass
fishing; to pledge ourselves to full adherence of all conservation
codes; to promote and share camaraderie; to improve our skills as bass
anglers through the exchange of bass catching techniques and ideas; to
stimulate public awareness of bass fishing as a major participation
sport, as well as a relaxing and healthy past time; to offer our
organized, moral, and political support and encouragement to our state
conservation departments; to demand adequate water standards and legal
enforcement of existing regulatory standards; to detect and report any
polluter, call public and political attention to his/her crime; to
encourage both private and governmental studies into any reason why
fishing on our lakes and streams is deteriorating, and to have them
seek out solutions for restoring and maintaining top bass fishing
conditions for ourselves, our children and future generations; to
promote and encourage youth fishing (Kids don’t go fishing,
they are taken fishing); to instill at any early age an interest and
love for this great sport; and to participate in and promote fishing
tournaments to help stimulate public interest in bass fishing.

The water may
have been down on Lake Hartwell,
but the weights really went up this year. Most members connected
better
with the bass this year as compared to last year. A couple of the
club's
senior citizens finally managed to do well. Congratulations to
David for
a very impressive tournament. David managed to put 2 solid limits
in the
boat while fishing behind Buddy. Buddy needs to open a guide
service on
Hartwell. This makes 2 years straight where he's put his
co-angler on
good fish. Even Jim finally got on some fish! Even though
Dale came
in and took 2nd and inched past Jim for big bass, the old guy did
manage to
hang on to 3rd. Several streaks came to an end last week.
Going
back to last season, Darrell had managed to cut a check in 9 straight
tournaments.
Unreal and totally impressive! Darrell came close this
tournament, but
the streak finally ended. Gene has pretty much owned the Savannah
River
chain, but his efforts fell short this year. Gene could only
bring 8 bass
to the scales this year. The points race continues to be
interesting. Darrell seems poised to capture Angler of the Year
honors
again this year, but he's got some guys trying to stop that. The
remaining positions are just too close to call. Our last 2
tournaments
will be interesting. Next up is Clarks Hill on 5-6 May, and low
water
levels could make this interesting. Maybe, the herring bite will
be
on. Early reports say that fishing is tough right now.
We'll see!
31 March 2012
Talk
about being "in the zone", Darrell continues his hot streak over the
last 2 seasons. Darrell has cut a check in all 8 tournaments
we've had this season, and he is well on his way towards a re-peat as
Angler of the Year. His success may be tied to the Gamecocks
baseball team, so we had all better watch how they are doing. Way
to go Darrell! Gene started his Savannah River run again on
Russell. Let's see what happens on Lake Hartwell.
Competition for the rest of the top-6 is tight right now. Going
into Hartwell, only about 100 points separates 7th from 3rd place, and
only 15 points between 4th and 7th. Lake Hartwell will be
interesting. Can Darrell keep up his dominance? Will Gene
whack them again? Who else might step it up? Watch out for
Dale.
